Concept

This project considered how we obscure and censor text, especially when people are left to their own devices. Using web scraping and conditional programming, I remixed an art piece originally intended to be collaborative.

Process

The toughest part of the project was not pushing technical boundaries, but having to sit through large datasets to identify words that could be deemed problematic — including nuanced cases.

So far, I have permission from the Whitney Museum of American Art but not yet from the Douglas Davis estate, so until then this website remains on my local server. I hope to share it publicly one day, as it takes hours to experience fully given the ~160+ scraped text files.
